I'd say there is a bit of a difference between the two. Trump refused to turn over the documents after multiple request to do so. It is his refusal that is the issue.

Yeah Trump lied about taking them, then refused to return them. You see the difference right? It's like if someone in your class tells you they are being abused and you do nothing (i.e. you). And any normal person who would tell the relevant authorities. Just saying.

trump stole multiple boxes of government property and was immediately requested to return it. He said, "No". NARA subpoenaed him. He ignored it. NARA got the FBI to issue a search warrant to bring their property back. He stole it. Biden's team found items and returned it....😐
