I like the idea of EVERYONE paying a small percentage of their income, wherever it comes from, for taxes - no deductions, no caps on income, no filing with the IRS….etc. make it super simple and everyone has skin in the game. However, it will never happen - unfortunately.
You do realize that the top 10% income earners pay about 85-90% of all taxes? Right?! That minimum wage person pays an effective tax rate of 0 because they will get most, if not more in many cases, than what they paid in through their payroll deductions when they file a return.
What I think we should do is something more like a fair tax. EVERYONE pays a small percentage, the same percentage, but there are no deductions, no refunds, no caps on when it stops, no differentiation between income earned from a job or investments…etc.

Those taxes always flow down to the middle class....higher groceries, higher gas prices, clothing, anything you have to buy...

We are not paying less for health care, insurance carriers have increased rates significantly and employers can not absorb that so guess where the impact is...employee premiums

So you tell me that when the big company pays more they don't pass it along to the consumer
