Ohio native Stanley Casmier Galaszewski was on the USS California on December 7, 1941. During the attack, the USS California was badly damaged by torpedoes and bombs, taking on water. She slowly settled to the bottom of the harbor in the days after the attack, according to the US Navy. After the attack, Galaszewski’s remains could not be identified.
