#HRC50 Statement on #Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Reports of killings of #WomensRights defenders, closing of schools for girls & attacks on #women protestors are extremely alarming.
The #Taliban promised change. Instead they are enacting the same archaic rules as when previously in power.
This September, after 2 years of virtual sessions, we are very excited to be hosting the 72nd session of the @WHO Regional Committee for Europe in @TelAviv. We look forward to taking part in discussions on current health issues & the direction of future activities.

Today, I wrote to @PMaurerICRC, @DrTedros & @UN_SPExperts. I urged them to condemn #Hamas for the inhumane treatment of Hisham al-Sayed & Avera Mengistu, two 🇮🇱 civilians with psychosocial disabilities & call for their release alongside the bodies of Oron Shaul & Hadar Goldin.
🇮🇱Israel has a new Prime Minister. @yairlapid succeeds to @naftalibennett and will lead the Government until the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to take place on November 1st.
Good luck, @IsraeliPM- "Your success is the success of the country".
Such a beautiful way to mark the last day of #PrideMonth !
#DiplomatsForEquality, Civil society representatives, UN staff & advocates coloured in rainbow the Human Rights Council Chamber @UNGeneva! Proud of Israel's strong voice in favor of #LGBTQI persons' rights. #HRC50#pride

The Ben & Jerry's factory in Israel is a microcosm of the diversity of Israeli society. Today’s victory is a victory for all those who know that the struggle against BDS is, first and foremost, a struggle for partnership and dialogue, and against discrimination and hate.

Preventing, combatting & responding to antisemitism must be a joint effort. Important step taken with Special Rapporteur @ahmedshaheed 8-point Action Plan to combat antisemitism presented at yesterdays side event hosted by 🇸🇪, 🇮🇱 & World Jewish Congress at UN Human Rights Council
Antisemitism concerns all of us!
Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief @ahmedshaheed presented the @UN Action Plan to Combat #Antisemitism
It provides guidance to governments and organizations. The 🇩🇪 Mission is proud to Co-Sponsor this initiative.
The Syrian government knows no limits.
It has killed so many of its own people.
It has used Sarin gas against innocent civilians.
It has overseen a campaign of systemic rape & sexual abuse in its prisons.
We must continue to work towards holding it to account. #HCR50
Yet, deaths only tell part of the story. The Syrian government has detained hundreds of thousands more innocent people. In detention, civilians as young as 11 have faced systemic violence, including rape and torture. #HRC50
In later years of this conflict, the government used chemical weapons. It used Chlorine gas. It used weapons of mass destruction on its own people. #HRC50
On the 15th of March, 2011, #Syrian civilians took to the streets demanding democratic reforms and a better life.
These civilians were met with bullets.
They were met with torture.
They were met by the Syrian government who knows no limits. #HRC50
This is murderous policy of the #Assad regime in #Syria Thread⤵️
350,209 documented deaths.
306,887 civilians
27,126 children
51,731 civilians killed in #Aleppo
47,483 civilians killed in Rural #Damascus
22,064 civilians killed in #Darra
The sheer numbers are horrific #HRC50
Delighted to have presented today an 8-point Action Plan to combat antisemitism, as followup to my 2019 report. Before my mandate’s term ends, I hope to form a diverse international coalition to support its implementation & to make periodic reviews of progress with stakeholders.
🇮🇱FM @yairlapid called on @WHO, @ICRC and organizations working with persons with psychosocial disabilities, to condemn #Hamas for its inhumane behavior and to demand it act according to international law and free the civilians and bodies it is holding.

In Geneva, we tackle essential human rights matters and we challenge all forms of racism and discrimination. Yet, it is time for the Human Rights Council and other organisations in Geneva to take a lead against #antisemitism and make it a priority.
