It is deplorable and deeply concerning that once again, UN Special Procedure mechanisms have repeated propaganda led by the Hamas terrorist organization. For years, Israel has warned the international community of the antisemitic and genocidal intentions by Hamas. The current war was brought upon Israel by Hamas terrorists who committed a massacre on October 7, butchering 1400 people and kidnapping 243 children, men and women. Israel will protect its population and ensure that Hamas will never commit such heinous crimes again. Israel does so in compliance with IHL. The IDF targets Hamas military capabilities and infrastructures, not civilians. Israel makes every effort to mitigate harm to civilians in Gaza, which are continuously and systematically used by Hamas terrorists as human shields. Instead of endorsing the Hamas narrative, we call on the international community to condemn Hamas’ use of civilians as human shields and to condemn the diversion of humanitarian aid for its terrorist operations.
