Hospitals should never be a target but they should also never be used as a shield.
By failing to condemn or even recognize Hamas’ cynical and systemic use of hospitals to shield their terrorist infrastructure and weapons, the @ICRC is giving terrorists worldwide a free pass to use health infrastructure to carry out terrorist acts and shield themselves from the consequences.
International law isn’t something one can pick and choose from. Article 19 makes it clear: the use of hospitals to harm the enemy deprives them of their protection.
🏥International humanitarian law is clear: hospitals must be protected by all parties to the conflict.
❌When hospitals are asked to evacuate, not everyone can leave
❌It is not possible to simply relocate the wounded, those in intensive care or mobility issues.
