Good summary, but it is falsely blaming population growth only. Per capita consumption is expected to rise by 200% in the same period while pop will grow less than 50%, so consumption growth is much more responsible for these effects than population growth.

Hi Diana, thanks for nothing this important point, as the Global Assessment identified demographic & sociocultural dynamics as 1 of 4 groups of indirect drivers which represent the values & behaviours underpinning the 5 direct drivers of biodiversity loss ipbes.net/news/Media-Release…

Thx ,I m.glad this made me read the whole release. It does identify pop and cons growth on an equal footing as causes &ends w faulting "current limited paradigm of economic growth." Therefore it is a good idea to treat these 2 at least on an equal footing in short summaries, 2

Personally.,if I need to pick one, i'd.pick consumption growth as pop growth is often (mis)used to just point the finger to others while keeping more silent about our consumption driving their ecosystem decline, too. Your press release well overs this point, too.

Hi Diana, thanks for engaging with the science. To be sure, the Global Assessment considers these factors and more as part of a full analysis. Please do look in detail at the SPM / full chapters for a complete picture: ipbes.net/global-assessment C.f. B15, pp 29; SPM Figure 9
