Letting ducks feed on slugs etc. in rice fields, subsequently enriching soil with their faeces, is good principle & fits with circular agriculture. However, it also is risk for infectious pathogen transfer between domestic & wild ducks, & risk increases with production intensity.

We’ll need lots of ducks to control pests on the rice needed to feed the billions of people for whom it’s a staple. Better to use existing natural locally tailored processes like enhanced field margins to support natural pest regulators eg wasps see nature.com/articles/nplants2…
