I understand the principle. The problem with not paying scientists for reviews& assessments is that some scientists - especially in the Global South - do not have the funds, time and institutional support to take off time from their busy schedules. Privileges the privileged...

Which is exactly why IPBES offers travel and subsistence support to experts from developing countries participating in the IPBES work programme - granted it does not entirely address this challenge but it does help to somewhat ameliorate it.

Out of interest: what is the balance percentage-wise on your last reports? Global North versus Global South scientists?

Of the 145 GA experts (including fellows, but excluding contributing authors), 52% (76) are from the Global South, and 48% (69) from the Global North - basically 50/50 split
