There is “intelligence” and there’s “intellectual.” The human species may have intelligence but we are not intellectual when it comes to protecting our home.

It is the western civilisation with their ugly science and technology started this destruction with their consumerism and commercialism which has now spread to all over the world. It has destroyed millions of sustainable community lifestyle throughout the world

Given the scale of human impact and the time we have known about its negative effects, I'd argue that there is a world of difference between intellect (possessing an ability) and wisdom (using that ability).
