"We no longer have the luxury of incremental progress. We must focus on transformative solutions, as emphasized by the @IPBES #GlobalAssessment. Nature is dynamic and interconnected, and so too must be our solutions for this crisis." —@CristianaPascaP @UNBiodiversity #Trondheim

Biodiversity is not a "solution" it's one descriptor of nature's vitality. The solution being offered is #NaturalCapital and payment for #ecosystemservices A good example is Uganda who trade their watersheds and carbon sinks for a % of GDP. Collateral for the #NewEconomy

I think this is a key point. Policy makers still seem to be stuck in the mindset of incremental progress. However the opportunity for that passed 20 or so years ago when policy makers failed to take us in the direction they promised. Only a radical new direction will now suffice.

Rights of Nature should be considered for certain ecosystems and species. In the absence of legal standing, we risk losing critical habitat and biodiversity essential to our survival.

Finally. Someone talking what makes perfect sense. Talking of restoring ecosystems to prevent or solve climate crisis. Absolutely spot on. In fact the crisis should be Climate-biodiversity-extinction-consumption (CBEC) crisis instead of just climate crisis.
