Thanks Scott but you miss the point of the original post which celebrates the fact that for the first time ever the scope and scale of the #naturecrisis has been presented to and accepted by 132 Governments by the worlds leading experts w/ options to do better
Exciting news: @IPBES is thrilled to welcome #Myanmar 🇲🇲as its 134th Member State! We look forward to working together with #MONREC to further strengthen the science-policy link, in Asia-Pacific and beyond.

It's not actually. It's them AND us or for many people around the world they ARE us. Human well-being is absolutely dependent on nature's contributions to people - food, clean water, air, jobs and security. Find out more: bit.ly/GAMediaRelease

One of the symbolic animals chosen to represent @IPBES #GlobalAssessment was the #otter. Mammologists at @UCC, a university uniquely surrounded by urban otters, are leading an extensive study of this charismatic species. irishtimes.com/news/environm…

Of course we do Scott - and the reality of the #GlobalAssessment is not, contrary to much of the reporting, tragedy but rather urgency of opportunity. The science is clear - it’s not too late to act - if we act now.

The Summary and even more so the full report makes it clear that animal husbandry and croplands are among the main drivers of land use change

Again please read the actual Summary or even better the full Report - one 59 sec. social media video does not and cannot encapsulate the complexity of the #GlobalAssessment findings sufficiently.

Nothing is hidden except perhaps by a reluctance to read the actual Summary of the Report w/ makes it abundantly clear that the root causes of the direct drivers of nature loss are based on indirect drivers such as production and consumption, population etc.

Of the 145 GA experts (including fellows, but excluding contributing authors), 52% (76) are from the Global South, and 48% (69) from the Global North - basically 50/50 split

Absent higher (by orders of magnitude) levels of resources from member States to Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platforms this is not going to change. Increased online-conferences/meetings and regular open peer review opportunities are therefore your best engagement chances
Which is exactly why IPBES offers travel and subsistence support to experts from developing countries participating in the IPBES work programme - granted it does not entirely address this challenge but it does help to somewhat ameliorate it.
