I dunno, this chatgpt headline is pretty fire satire

- npcs aren't known for giving bad map directions, they usually just put a marker - apple maps is a boring reference & it doesn't give quest directions - why is the npc accused? just say its the worst - it added "local" bc of local news but "npc" implies it's set irl, not in-game

if a writer pitched us this headline, we would pass on it

How does npc imply that it's irl?

it would say "local knight" or something if it was set in the game. characters don't generally call themselves npcs, so this should be written from the pov of someone PLAYING a game rather than LIVING in it. we sometimes use "local hero" or "local man" but not "local character"

it’s a bad yo mama joke but replacing the oomph of yo mama jokes with gamer words “yo mama so stupid she gives worse directions than apple maps!!” is the same joke

I think this is being dismissive of the 2d top town rpg age where npcs would vaguely describe the place your meant to go to in the guise of a puzzle so you wander aimlessly until you find new enemies or a new cutscene.

Now I wonder, how many of those headlines get scrapped (or put on hold) because they're missing that one piece to make them special

MapQuest was right there, too...

also, on the use of "local", "area" would be a punchier opening adjective for what is otherwise a long and bland headline
