They only participate because speedrunnin is popular. Obviously, unless your game is based on speed and agility, seein your whole work bein compressed to glitchy textures, skippin story or side content, is just depressin.

i'm not saying it would be funny to have a mandatory speedrunner be part of your QA team, i AM saying it would be funny to watch them consistently break the game to pieces and frustrate the entire dev team throughout development

Most of the 'devs watch speedruns' videos are generally filled with the dev going "Well we didn't expect that, but it's really cool".

I’ll never forget the Doom devs vowing to put unskippable cutscenes in their skyboxes to trap speedrunners. Legendary.

finding weird bugs that are out of the main path isn't really the dev's job tho. that's QA's job and just as necessary and valuable. Unless a dev is also QA, in which case i feel sorry for them and wish them therapy
