dark souls 2 may not have been harder than dark souls 1 but its the only souls game that feels like im playing a an actual video game isntead of a fromsoft fever dream

Dark Souls 2 is an awful souls game, but it's still a good game. Scholar of the First Sin however was dog shit try hard garbage. They flooded areas with ridiculous enemies and made it harder by attrition. I'm all for a good randomizer, but even randomizers are more forgiving.

Is it also soul crushingly difficult? Please tell me there is a lot of poison swamps as well. I need it to have a frustrating amount of poison swamps.

Regular reminder that DS2 was better than DS1 in nearly every way and anyone who says otherwise is either just regurgitating the popular opinion or they value the discourse of a Dark Souls game over how fun it is to actually play

DS2 is pretty good. I like it about as much as 3, which I like less than 1. You should by no means skip it. Just know that it's...unpolished.
