All joking aside, I recall somebody trying to connect a discdrive taken out of a PS5 to the motherboard of a discless PS5. Didn't work, probably disabled at the OS level.

This actually reminds me of an idea I had: a PS3 Game Disc Drive that you can use on a PS5 via a USB 3.0 connection (using one of the rear USB ports) so you can play PS3 game discs.
