I once read a comic on the site that said that they would see the articles pop up on their phones "feed" and there was nothing indicating it was satire, I think that's why a lot of people tend to think it's real.

this is definitely the culprit (and it's not something we have any control over afaik) but we try pretty hard to make sure our articles are obviously a joke, so it's pretty funny to me when people get tricked nonetheless

Yeah, I think that the fact that some people don't see it as real or love to try to use articles to try to prove how big brain they are. They will either see it as real and try to tell you how they are smarter than you, or they know it's fake, but just want to show their ass.

After all these decades, people still thing Onion articles are real, so kind of inevitable.
