Sometime after I got my Xbox 360, I learned that hitting the Xbox button on the controller usually paused most games. Since then, I started hitting either hit the Xbox or PS dashboard/home button just to be safe. Works like 95% of the time.

Switch or PS5 could have just used system suspend (on handhelds that goes all the way back to the PSP). But at least on PC you get to roll the dice on being able to even buy a video card.

That's a PS4 controller though, it doesn't have a Start button. It's called Options.
