I always assumed the guilds pay the town to operate there, not that the town pays the guilds to be there? 🤔

They get funding from the larger organizations, the town itself doesn't fund them. There's always HQ of each one of those organizations :D

Back in my day the town just had an Adventurer's Guild. And we liked it!
