Save states don't quite do it either. If a real save is a luscious and tasty bakery-made loaf of bread and autosaves are like a a box of crispbread, save states are like a dry, tasteless bun bought in a plastic bag from the "these were baked yesterday" section.

in a game like Stalker where you quicksave like crazy, it feels nice going back to a game where each save feels unique and different. a game where you made massive amounts of progress and don't have to save ten times per step is great.

I still save afterwards then there's games like stardew valley that just force you to trust auto saves and I'm not ready for that kind of commitment
