This was me in Tales of Berseria. I didn't realize mastering weapons added permanent stats to your character - i thought it just applied to that weapon when equipped. Took me like 35 hours to understand that then I had to go grind a bunch of weapons.

I played through Fire Emblem 1 and 2, and only at the end battle of Sacred Stones, learned that you had to use items to level up your units instead of just having them hold them. Those games were SO HARD and it was totally my own fault :(
