If there was just a quick easter egg sort of thing, or some kind of tongue and cheek reference, I might like that. Like if Robotnik's assistant says "why don't we go after something else?" And Robotnik says "I TOLD YOU I'M NOT GOING TO WASTE MY TIME ON A BIG PURPLE CAT!"
