I've been playing Minecraft since alpha and I've never seen the need to make a wheat farm or animal farm. Like what's the point when you can just go out into the world and get some meat.
So you don't have to go out for long distances to find only a couple of cows? It's much faster to breed the cows. Practically infinite food and leather.
