Honestly? Twitter should only make the like counter visible to yourself on your own tweets. That way you still have the satisfaction of big numbers, but people who get constantly worried about other people getting more likes than them can finally be at peace.

Literally in the same thread lol. Also trust me people who get hurt over likes can't quit social media because they're too addicted. Its not as simple as deleting social media.

Don't change anything about the twitter algorithm at all, just hide the like counter. That way, "viral", tweets can still go viral.
