Should probably clear up some stuff here. I'm talking about how people judge you based on how good you are at the game. (Coughs in MKW community). As long as you're having fun, that's what games are about.
games are about having fun, not how good you are at them

Progression is fun, without progression the game would feel boring. Which makes you have a drive to continue going and going to be number one. Which is perfectly fine, but when you're being constantly judged based on how you play the game, its off-putting.

Its the classic case of Casual vs Competitive. From my experience, when we played Smash at school if we had that one person who played Competitive in a casual setting, then the game would not be fun to play anymore.

Basically, to play Competitive everyone needs to agree and know and understand that Competitive is being played before playing Competitive. For me Competitive upsets my anxiety, so I don't play Competitive. Doesn't mean others can't enjoy it :3

I had this on dude who was super competitive. We played smash and he just beat the shit out of us. The next day I put him against my Inkling amibo, he never played with us again.

For me there are some good examples of this. Mario Kart 8 I’m good at but I don’t really have fun and I’m not a big fan of MK8. A game like an RPG, I’m not too skilled at, but I have a ton of fun

yea but when you didn't ask to play competitive it makes my anxiety go up and makes the game so much less enjoyable.
