Think of it as a book, they teach this in school.
The cover of the book has to be appealing and the first pages of the book have to have a satisfying hook so people are motivated to read the rest of the book. It's the same thing with creating content on YouTube.

CTR
Retention
Retention grants more Impressions, the more Impressions, the lower the CTR. You're goal is to have high retention and high CTR to get a high performing video.

Impressions are granted if the video has good retention. It's likely your newer videos are getting lower retention.

Not doing commentary gives a significant disadvantage for creators. You'll have to find an extremely unique way to present your content that other channels aren't doing if you choose to not do commentary
