yea open rooms are supposed to come out along with 24 player, half of open rooms already did, but the other half hasn't yet ;~;
and ko mode is almost ready to come out, but after that online time trial work begins soo 24 player won't be ready for awhile 🥴

This was the rule voting update that Bean was working on before getting distracted by 200cc and 24 player.
It's been delayed so many times to the point where I think it's cancelled in favor of open rooms instead iirc.
But yea it was supposed to be bigger than the Ghosts update

bowser's fury just felt too small to be considered a game on it's own, that doesn't mean it wasn't good, but i wouldn't consider it it's own game felt more like a small dlc pack
(which essentially it was lol)

Imagine a 3D Mario game that's bigger and longer than Odyssey and the free roaming of Bowser's Fury with a deep story to it.

we're definitely in due for one, the last big mario game that wasn't a port/sports/spinoff (as in mario bros 35, etc) was origami king
