Nabbit has always been a strange character to me. Like his character just seems like he wants to keep his identity a secret. Like how Bowser Jr was for a little bit in Sunshine. I still think that Nintendo has great plans for Nabbit in the future.

I have this theory that I've been holding onto for the longest time that Nabbit is actually the third Mario Brother this whole time. Nintendo did say that Mario may need help from a third Mario Brother at some point in an interview years ago.

I'm pretty sure they care, I mean they set up an entire website on how to help the community and partnered with PFLAG.
It just doesn't make sense why you have to do the giveaway to get the cookies.
